Boulder Wham! Review

Boulder Wham! Review

Boulder Wham! is a 1965 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid, different short for the series.

The Coyote tries, with no success, to find a way across a gorge to reach the Road Runner on the other side. This was a unique Road Runner short that did not focus on running for better and for worse. While certainly odd to see a rather stationary movie starring this duo, the gags were at least quite good, so ultimately this was a successful experiment. The animation is solid and the jazzy score is excellent.

The best gag was the hypnotism one. How it ended with those signs was hilarious. Most gags in this short are quite strong actually with only a couple of lackluster ones present in the beginning. The energy went seriously down for this movie, but the originality and solid execution took it up a notch for me. I also found it hilarious how the bird literally mocked the coyote by standing on the edge of the cliff on the other side all the time.

Boulder Wham! lacks the requisite running for the series, but at least most gags are pretty good and the score is excellent.

My Rating – 3.8
