Tired and Feathered Review

Tired and Feathered Review

Tired and Feathered is a 1965 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a surprisingly strong late period Road Runner short.

Rudy Larriva started directing Road Runner movies this year and he was actually quite good at them. This was a terrible period for Looney Tunes and only this particular subseries managed to retain its quality and dignity. The animation is solid here, though I watched a poor-quality version online, so I couldn’t quite see it properly.

The final gag was extended and quite convoluted, thus it was hilarious. The coyote building an entire bird sanctuary just for the bird to trick him again was hysterical. The flying scenes also worked. The telephone being in the middle of the desert was funny at first, but later they failed to properly make use of that gag. But for the most part, the gags here were surprisingly strong, though naturally varying in quality.

Tired and Feathered is a rare Looney Tunes short from this period that really works. It’s uneven, but most of the gags were great, especially the hilarious last one.

My Rating – 3.9
