Bonanza Bunny Review

Bonanza Bunny Review

Bonanza Bunny is a 1959 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty funny cartoon.

Bugs fights with Blacque Jacque Shellacque over Klondike gold. This movie introduced this Blacque guy. He is this angry, self-proclaimed dangerous man who is after gold. However, he proves no match to Bugs’ wits as the rabbit make a fool out of him in the end. I found the ending somewhat disappointing with that puzzling riding a mouse gag that did not work.

But the rest of the cartoon very much did work. The highlight was the opening that perfectly introduced us to the Gold Rush era through the use of gorgeous animation and interesting details, such as many signs and taverns. Bugs is very funny here, and the comedic highlight of the picture is the card battle scene that ended in a pleasantly absurd Looney Tunes fashion. The dynamic between these two was instantly superb and memorable.

Bonanza Bunny makes great use of its setting due to wonderfully detailed animation, but it’s also quite funny and very interesting in its Blacque character addition.

My Rating – 4.1
