Bill of Hare Review

Bill of Hare Review

Bill of Hare is a 1962 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty solid cartoon.

The Tasmanian Devil finds Bugs cooking dinner underneath a beach boardwalk. He then tries to cook the rabbit, but of course he fails miserably. I’ve never really cared for this particular pairing of characters and here the results are still somewhat uneven. Too many sequences were far from funny or memorable with the cooking gags in the second act being particularly forgettable.

The highlight is the third act where the best moments lie. The entire sequence with the tunnel and the train started off in a familiar vein, but it ended up in a place that is very much surreal and crazy in the best Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies fashion. The ending is also pretty nice while both characters’ voices are excellent and the dialogue is solid as well.

Bill of Hare has a pretty strong third act, but the rest of the cartoon was only serviceable.

My Rating – 3.7
