Betty Boop’s Rise to Fame Review

Betty Boop’s Rise to Fame is a 1934 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a very weak cartoon.

A reporter interviews Max Fleischer about his creation, and Betty illustrates with excerpts from three prior cartoons. This is basically just a filler cartoon that consists of footage taken from previous great shorts. Those three include ‘The Old Man of the Mountain’, ‘Stopping the Show’ and ‘Betty Boop’s Bamboo Isle’. The scenes from these shorts are just repeated with no original stuff added to them.

The only element that was fresh and new here was the addition of live-action segments. Max Fleischer talking to Betty was so sweet and charming. The ending was also quite a lot of fun. But those admittedly great moments could not save the movie from being overly lazy, uninspired and pointless.

Betty Boop’s Rise to Fame is very well animated and memorable in its live-action segments, but otherwise it’s an un inspired, pointless filler short.

My Rating – 3.2
