Beep Prepared is a 1961 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty standard Road Runner short.

Maybe it was a weak year for animation, it probably was, but this one was somehow nominated for an Academy Award when in reality it’s quite standard as this series goes. It’s not bad for sure, but it’s far from the best entries. The animation is very strong and the gags are fine, especially Road Runner’s role in them.

But the problem here is that we’ve seen so many of these set pieces before in rather similar situations – the train, the magnet etc. They were very well executed as action sequences and the ending was pretty good, but the lack of originality bothered me as it was evident from beginning to end.

Beep Prepared is a weaker Oscar nominee. It’s a Road Runner short that is well made, but certainly far from the best entries in this series.
