Baton Bunny Review

Baton Bunny Review

Baton Bunny is a 1959 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very underrated cartoon.

This is one of those concerto Bugs Bunny movies in the vein of ‘A Corny Concerto’ and ‘Rhapsody Rabbit’. I don’t know why it received less attention than the aforementioned flicks when in actuality it is much stronger than both. Bugs here is trying to conduct an orchestra, but one annoying fly frustrates him to no end. Eventually, it is revealed that the fly is the only one remaining member of the crowd and the rabbit bows to it.

That was a hilarious final sequence that really worked. It was instantly iconic and so much fun. The rest of the movie is also great. Yes, even more could have been done with this particular premise as the mid section is a bit repetitive, but most of the movie is brisk, pleasant and very elegant in its use of classical music. The animation is terrific while seeing Bugs in silent mode was refreshing. Another comedic highlight was that bum line. That was very funny.

Baton Bunny is an underappreciated Bugs Bunny short that is very funny, elegantly constructed and beautifully animated.

My Rating – 4.4
