Animaniacs Season 2 Review

Animaniacs was just as good in its four consequent seasons as the first one. Some characters got less and some got more focus, but the quality remained consistent.

Animaniacs Season 2 Review

Yes, I am going to lump all the remaining seasons after the first one together in one review because they are all extremely short. Four, thirteen, eight and nine. That’s how many episodes the second, third, fourth and fifth season had. I don’t know why they didn’t put it all in one season and it’s a shame that the show got just 99 episodes when it could have gone for more.

It’s a shame because the quality simply did not stop in these subsequent seasons. What I liked the most about these bunch of episodes is the emphasis on more Hollywood-inspired and movies episodes. Those were continually sophisticated and simply a lot of fun.

Let’s talk about the individual Animaniacs characters. Dot continues to steal the show as I find Yakko and Wakko frequently quite unlikable. But again, the three of them together are excellent. Dr. Otto is great too and I loved that episode that emphasized on his importance to the trio.

Unfortunately, whereas they easily shined in the first season, this time around Pinky and the Brain are awfully underutilized and simply underused. They got some solid outings, but mostly they did not get enough episodes, not by a long mile.

But Goodfeathers definitely got a couple of gems here and there, even if the latest seasons saw the decline in their appearances too. But whenever they got the moment to shine, they entirely used it to their own advantage. Great characters.

Animaniacs Season 2 Review

The chicken segments are solid as are Buttons and Mindy ones, but easily the standout part of these later seasons is Slappy the Squirrel. Not only is she such a funny, simply awesome personality, but her stories here easily stole the show as the best, most inventive and most purely entertaining ones. And also the funniest by far. Her relationship with Skippy is endearing and the two are just wonderful creations.

The latest seasons of Animaniacs remain pretty good in quality and although uneven and weak in some episodes plus some characters are underused, most got their moments to shine with the highlights being Slappy the Squirrel segments and the Hollywood stories.

Worst Episodes: Take My Siblings Please/The Mindy 500/Morning Malaise and Wakko’s 2-Note Song/Panama Canal /The Ballad of Magellan.

Best Episodes: The Tiger Prince/ All the Words in the English Language and The Sound of Warners/ Yabba Dabba Doo.

My Rating – 3.8
