A Star Is Bored Review

A Star Is Bored is a 1956 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a reused, but still solid entry in the series.

Yes, this is as good as these recycled shorts can be. That is because the Hollywood framing of it is so strong that we sometimes just might forget that we are watching reused animation from previous shorts. Yes, some of them are obvious and they could have included more memorable action with that entire middle part being repetitive, but more often than not this movie still works.

The ending is great, but it is the beginning that was truly spectacular due to Daffy’s hilarious lines with the best one being “I could be sent to prison for the scenes I’m gonna steal!” That one really made me laugh. The rivalry between Bugs and Daffy is very well established here, and the twist that Bugs was the one responsible for all of this really worked despite it being predictable of course.

A Star Is Bored is less memorable in the reused animation bits, but the framing is so good and Daffy is absolutely hilarious here.

My Rating – 3.9
