Dog Gone Modern ReviewDog Gone Modern Review

Dog Gone Modern is a 1939 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very slight short.

After ‘The Lone Stranger and Porky’, this is another very weak short to open this particular year. So basically here we follow a bunch of puppies (Two Curious Puppies is their name) as they jump around, explore and have fun. Yes, that is the plot here and, needless to say, this is no plot. Just a scenario.

It reminded of Disney cartoons of the thirties but the weaker ones for sure. Certainly this film is cute and the puppies are endearing, but the sugary element is just too extreme here and there is nothing else to counteract to it. There are no strong gags or any fine action.

Dog Gone Modern is another slight Warner Bros. entry with solid animation, but no plot or great gags.

My Rating – 3.2
