X-Men Season 2 Review

The second season of X-Men is another pretty good season which admittedly is inferior to its predecessor.

X-Men Season 2 Review

This season had one major storyline with Mr. Sinister and Savage Island, but otherwise the first season had more iconic stories whereas this one focused more on the superhero backstories of some of the main characters which I liked to witness. That choice did lead to a less showy, but more intimate season.

Till Death Do Us Part Part 1 and Part 2 are both very good episodes and this story of Mr. Sinister using Morph to battle the X-Men is a lot of fun. It has a bunch of memorable action sequences and is pleasantly comic-booky as is this entire season.

Whatever It Takes is solid, but admittedly quite forgettable in the greater scheme of things. Red Dawn is a very weak episode. I like Colossus quite a bit, but this storyline of his is typical and unfortunately not very good.

Repo Man is a very interesting episode where Wolverine is the target of villains who want to extract his adamantium skeleton. It is a great emphasis on his character and again featuring very good fights. X-Ternally Yours is the backstory of Gambit and it is silly as is his character and he did not need a whole episode for himself. I disliked that choice quite a bit.

Time Fugitives is a pretty good storyline. Both Part 1 and Part 2 are pretty good though admittedly this entire story is yet another time travel story for X-Men. But regardless, it is very well crafted so I enjoyed it for the most part.

X-Men Season 2 Review

A Rogue’s Tale is such a wonderful showcase for Rogue. She has a great backstory, very emotional and I love her character so seeing her origins was important. Beauty & the Beast is somewhat inconsequential, but definitely exploring the mutants’ difficulties in dating life really well. As for Mojovision, it is such a ridiculous story with a silly, stupid villain that ranks as the worst one so far in the series’ run.

Reunion Part 1 is a great buildup for explosive Part 2. This is a great finale where the X-Men finally fight Mr. Sinister who is surely such a phenomenal, competent and so well designed villain that it’s a shame that he never got his own feature film. The fights here are so good.

Overall, this is a less ambitious season for better and for worse. Some episodes did not work, but many did with excellent backstories as well as great action and a terrific villain in memorable Mr. Sinister.

Worst Episodes: Red Dawn and Mojovision.

Best Episodes: A Rogue’s Tale and Reunion Part 2.

My Rating – 3.9
