Wideo Wabbit Review

Wideo Wabbit Review

Wideo Wabbit is a 1956 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a dated, but solid flick.

This is yet another one of those 50s Looney Tunes cartoons to focus so extensively on parodying the then current television shows, thus the result is a dated cartoon with the references being lost on most of today’s audiences who haven’t seen those shows themselves. The framing is interesting with the filming of a show with Elmer and Bugs producing some amusing moments, but overall more could have been done with this setup.

The short is mostly famous for introducing that technical issues gag that would be used so many times in other shows and cartoons in the future. The utilization of the set and the filming was so well done with the editing and animation being particularly strong. Some scenes are very good with Bugs being funny, but overall both he and Elmer weren’t as memorable as they are in their best outings.

Wideo Wabbit has its reference and memorability issues, but the framing is pretty good while the animation is also excellent.

My Rating – 3.6
