Upswept Hare ReviewUpswept Hare Review

Upswept Hare is a 1953 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a fun short.

Bugs moves into Elmer’s penthouse. Then, Elmer naturally tries to get rid of him. It’s crazy that he has a penthouse somehow. That came out of nowhere, but it did lead to some terrific interior design work, and all of the scenes inside are great, especially the terrific, amusing pool scenes.

I wasn’t crazy about its ending, though. That entire competition felt tiresome and it was a weak way to end off an otherwise strong cartoon, though the final line spoken by Bugs was so funny. He’s great here, but Elmer needed better scenes for himself. The animation is superb throughout.

Upswept Hare ended rather weakly, but everything before that was strong, well animated and quite fun.

My Rating – 3.9
