Two Crows from Tacos Review

Two Crows from Tacos Review

Two Crows from Tacos is a 1956 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a surprisingly funny cartoon.

Whenever I get to watch a Merry Melodies short with entirely new characters and one-offs, I am of course rather skeptical at first because, let’s face it, most of these shorts end up being disposable. But imagine my surprise to find out that this one is more than solid and is actually quite good. Two birds chase a grasshopper, but fail miserably. Yes, that premise itself is very familiar and most of the originality is non-existent here, but at least the execution is quite strong.

These crows are very interesting in the fact that they speak Spanish. They aren’t just Spaniards, but they speak the language too. At first, I was thinking that I was watching a dubbed version, but when I heard English as well, I was blown away that they would actually make such a cartoon in the fifties or in any era really. The two are fantastic. More development could have been given to the hopper, but these two themselves are hilarious in their dialogue and some of their gags are very funny, especially the ending.

Two Crows from Tacos is original in its characters and the use of language while most of the gags are surprisingly funny here.

My Rating – 4
