Training Pigeons Review

Training Pigeons Review

Training Pigeons is a 1936 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a very forgettable flick.

Betty Boop is training a flock of pigeons, but one stray leads Pudgy the pup on a precarious chase. This was such an odd movie that inexplicably focused on this pigeon as the main interest and foil for the puppy. Betty was once again needlessly sidelined and the movie was in desperate need of more humor.

But the animation is just as gorgeous as always with the 3D effects being truly stunning to behold. The pigeon tormenting poor Pudgy also led to so many amusing scenarios, though I did feel a bit bad for poor Pudgy at times. The realization that it was all just a dream was a tired conclusion, but at least Pudgy was reliably fun and endearing throughout.

Training Pigeons is a Pudgy short that feature an odd pigeon-centric premise, but the animation is gorgeous and some scenes were quite fun.

My Rating – 3.4
