Top Ten One Direction Songs

One Direction is most surely one of the best boy bands of all time, maybe even the very best. That’s because they are no one-hit wonders and they actually have a number of very memorable and strong numbers throughout their career which is now in flux unfortunately. These are in my opinion their ten best songs with four honorable mentions.

10. Same Mistakes

This is one of a couple of their songs which really remind me of Eurovision songs and pleasantly so as I like those songs quite a bit. It features solid lyrics and a very strong chorus which is quite memorable that it carries this one to the tenth spot on my list.

9. Home

Home is one very romantic song which is youthful and very endearing in its writing and I find it very upbeat with the song becoming faster and faster as it goes, leading to a wonderful finale which is great in both its lyrics and beat.

8. Don’t Forget Where You Belong

I love the lyrics of this song as it’s so well written and wonderful in what it has to say, but it’s also a fun song which is very well composed and I liked it in its entirety and not just its very  catchy central melody.

7. C’mon, C’mon

I enjoy this one tremendously. It’s beautifully uplifting in its infectious chorus which I can’t help but sing along to whenever I hear it. Although the rest of the song is a bit too slow and calm for me, the refrain is so amazing that it elevates it to much greater heights.

6. One Thing

“Get out, get out, get out of my head” – That’s a perfectly applicable part of the lyrics from this very amusing, highly entertaining chorus. It’s one of those One Direction numbers where everything works tremendously from the singing to the beat to the memorability factor.

5. Steal My Girl

Steal My Girl is fine in its chorus and overall song, but this is one number here which actually benefits from some other things besides those usual metrics. I am of course talking about its strikingly memorable opening beat and a phenomenal music video starring Danny DeVito.

4. Change My Mind

I love this one so much and it’s the best recent discovery for me when it comes to this band. It’s actually a slower, more calculated number and thus it’s different and refreshing for the boys. It’s very beautiful and easy to sing along to.

3. What Makes You Beautiful

This famous song of theirs only gets a couple of points crossed because it reminds me so much of other popular boy band numbers, especially the ones from The Backstreet Boys. Still, it’s undeniably hugely entertaining and catchy with a consistently upbeat tempo that is so infectious that it manages to offset the rather pedestrian lyrics.

2. Night Changes

I absolutely adore this gem of a number! It’s by far One Direction’s most underappreciated song which is a shame as it deserves much more love how beautiful it is. It’s a ballad and one of the most beautifully sung numbers from the band with everyone delivering vocally. I love the absolutely beautiful refrain in both its warm lyrics and in its infectious music.

1. Story of My Life

How can you make a One Direction list without putting this one on top? Yes, it’s a clichéd, but simply put the only right choice as Story of My Life is not only infectiously dynamic and a whole lot of fun could be mined from its progressively quicker, more catchier music which gets absolutely superb in the final beat and chorus, but it’s also the best one thanks to its by far deepest, most meaningful lyrics which are so well painted visually in its terrific music video. It’s a classic by all means.

Honorable Mentions:

Midnight Memories – I know that this one has its fans, but I simply do not like rock songs that much and this one, although very fun in its chorus, feels familiar and too atypical for the band.

Infinity – A perfectly fine song, maybe a bit too fine for its own sake as it gets forgotten in the shuffle. But it’s still one of the more serious of the band’s numbers.

Live While We’re Young – Another forgettable number, this one is also fine overall and quite fun, but not as fun as the other numbers on this list.

Best Song Ever – Although Best Song Ever features a phenomenal, memorable comedic music video, the song itself is overly bland and not particularly original.
