Top Ten Bee Gees Songs

The Bee Gees are one of my favorite bands, especially due to their very diverse output. Certainly, they are known for their disco tunes during the seventies which are great, but their later output including pop and rock is almost as good. They are one of the rare bands who have at least fifteen or more classics to their name so making this list was very difficult, especially choosing the top ten.

10. Don’t Forget to Remember

This tenth spot was the most difficult one to fill, but ultimately I went with a more original and different choice as I wanted to include different types of songs on the list. This number has a very different tone to it, and it works because the chorus is particularly well sung, melancholy and very memorable.

9. Had a Lot of Love Last Night

The most soulful number probably of them all, Had a Lot of Love Last Night has a very different type of chorus that is deeper in lyrics and very emotional whereas the rest of the number is even better. When it comes to writing and sensibility, this just might be their crowning jewel.

8. How Can You Mend a Broken Heart

Though obviously a renowned classic by many, to me this famous number is a bit overrated. Certainly it has wonderful lyrics and a fine enough tune superbly sung, but overall it’s nowhere near as catchy or as memorable as many other songs on this list to me personally.

7. You Win Again

This is the type of extremely fun and catchy tunes that the Bee Gees put out in the 80s and 90s that unfortunately do not get enough recognition as they are newer. But to me You Win Again is simply a lot of fun with an irresistible tune to it, and such a great beat.

6. You Should Be Dancing

There are a lot of memorable 70s disco tunes from this band with You Should Be Dancing being certainly one of them. Though slightly repetitive, you cannot help but dance and sing along to it as it’s infectiously catchy in its chorus and very entertaining in its overall tune.

5. Above and Beyond

Above and Beyond is a nineties song from the band and obviously it gets overlooked because of that, but in my opinion this is one of their greatest, most purely entertaining songs with good lyrics and singing, but the tune itself, especially the refrain, is infectious.

4. Stayin’ Alive

Yes, I know. Stayin’ Alive is almost always number one or two on people’s lists, but to me it’s a great song that is overrated when you consider the top three choices. It’s still a quintessential seventies song with a very memorable music video accompanying it as well as a memorable and different sounding beat to it.

3. Tragedy

Tragedy is another 70s classic which gets better and better upon subsequent listenings. It has that essential sound and structure that all Bee Gees songs of the time have along with a hugely memorable chorus that is simple, but very effective.

2. Night Fever

I got introduced to this timeless classic first during ‘Saturday Night Fever’. It is a quintessential number for that movie, but it’s great on its own terms also. It has that transporting quality to it as it gets you to the disco floors of the seventies clubs incredibly well through its infectious beats in the chorus in particular.

1. How Deep Is Your Love

This is definitely the most obvious number one choice for the Bee Gees because it’s the right choice. The lyrics are so beautiful and immensely romantic. The song is sensual, but also beautifully sung with the beginning being even better than the refrain. It is their quintessential number as well as one of the best songs from this decade. Everything here works from the singing to the tune to the structure to the lyrics, leading to a timeless classic.

Honorable Mentions:

Too Much Heaven – It is painful leaving this classic off the lost, but this is how amazing this band is. Too Much Heaven is a wonderful tune with an endearing quality to it.

Rest Your Love on Me – It pains me even more to leave this underrated classic which is incredibly romantic, wonderfully sung and an overall lovely ballad.

To Love SomebodyTo Love Somebody is their older song from the sixties, but a hugely influential one for the band and the pop genre itself. It’s very catchy and romantic.

If I Can’t Have You – It is crazy how this 70s number also failed to make it to the top ten. It’s another hugely entertaining and catchy in chorus Bee Gees staple.

Embrace – This 1999 song from the band proves how great they still were so late in the game with absolutely beautiful vocals and such a wonderful refrain.
