Top Ten Adventure Time Characters

Adventure Time is a show that was populated by huge mythology and cast of characters. Thus, it was difficult to choose the best and most memorable of the bunch. For this list, I focused on how memorable the character is and how well developed and/or sympathetic he or she is. Without further ado, here are Adventure Time’s greatest creations.

10. The Lich

The Lich is by far the show’s biggest and best villain. A very creepy guy who posed a genuine threat to our heroes, he was intimidating whenever he appeared, raising the stakes of those episodes significantly. He would rank even higher had he been in more episodes.

9. Princess Bubblegum

Princess Bubblegum did not appeal much to me at first, but thankfully she was eventually deepened through her excellent romance with Marceline. Individually speaking, she was forgettable, but as a couple these two were quite memorable.

8. Gunter

Gunter is a fascinating character. At first he was just this cute, goofy penguin sidekick to the Ice King, but eventually he received a deeper, intriguing backstory and he became a true villain of sorts in such a crazy turn of events.

7. Tree Trunks

A hugely underrated character, Tree Trunks is one of the best supporting characters on Adventure Time. Her leisurely voice and attitude along with a very memorable and funny personality made her an instant favorite among this cast.

6. BMO

BMO is the most adorable character in the series. Most of his episodes were only solid without being great, but he continued to be a genuinely sympathetic, charming little robot dude who was a great friend to our main duo.

5. Marceline

Marceline the Vampire Queen is the edgy goth of the show. She got a great romance with Princess Bubblegum, but an even more interesting troubled relationship with her terrible father. She’s a force to be reckoned with and a very eclectic personality.

4. Lumpy Space Princess

A highly underappreciated comic relief, Lumpy Space Princess is by far the funniest character on this show. Most of the humor here comes from the fact that she show’s male creator voiced her. Couple that with her very sassy personality and you’ve got one truly hilarious creation.

3. Ice King

Ice King is another very funny character and he was truly unforgettable in the first couple of seasons where he shined the most. Him being so horny was amusing, but his sad backstory and miserable life deepened his arc. It’s a shame that he was so sidelined in the latter half of the show.

2. Finn

Finn is a memorable hero and the main character. He isn’t overly heroic nor is he too positive as he has his negative personality traits and those made him unique. He got a lot of moments not just to shine, but to genuinely grow as a person while his friendship with Jake was the heart of the entire series.

1. Jake

Speaking of Jake, yes, he is my number one choice for this list. I chose him over Finn because he is the more memorable and funnier character of the two. Their friendship was so lovely and beautifully depicted while Jake’s backstory and his family were also well explored. He was a wonderful friend to Finn while being so much fun on his own too.

Honorable Mentions:

Lady RainicornJake’s girlfriend did not get much development on the show, but she was visually memorable and her speaking Korean never ceased to be funny.

Susan StrongSusan Strong is this very intriguing figure on the show as a rare human besides Finn in the land of Ooo. Her backstory was quite interesting.

Betty – The previous fiancé of Ice King, Betty only appeared in the latter half of the show. She was interesting, but she needed more development.

Fern – The same goes for Fern, who ended up being this very interesting mirror-vision nemesis of sorts to Finn. He was cool, but underutilized.

Flame PrincessFlame Princess did get many episodes for her, but she never appealed to me much. She is an important character for sure , but one that was a bit tedious in my opinion.
