The Wrong Rock is a 2020 animated short film directed by Michael Cawood. It’s a pretty imaginative, sweet flick.
A mushroom tries to leave another rock to find a new rock that features mushrooms that are more like him. This movie clearly can stand for diversity and people facing prejudices, but it can also be understood literally in the environmental sense of adaptation and evolution, which to me as a biology enthusiast was much more interesting.
The film is clearly meant to tug on the heartstrings and the ending was overly triumphant with the song choice being rather cheesy, but most of the movie played out like this very elegant, highly imaginative and atmospheric look into the mushrooms and this fascinating, but dangerous sea rocks environment. The score is strong and the animation is truly superb with the creature designs being stellar and the colors are mesmerizing.
