The Wild Chase Review

The Wild Chase Review

The Wild Chase is a 1965 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a weak cartoon.

Speedy Gonzales and the Road Runner are racing each other, with Sylvester Cat and Wile E. Coyote in hot pursuit. The choice to pair off all these characters was a memorable, but odd one. Speedy and the Road Runner do not fit well together. Yes, they are both fast, but otherwise they are misaligned. Sylvester and Wile E. Coyote fared better, but even they don’t quite fit together.

This was a time when Warner Bros. was out of their Golden Age, so they wanted just to capitalize on their characters, which resulted in a lot of recycled animation and so many of these odd pairings. The idea of a shared universe of characters, thus, is not a new invention as here we have it all the way back in the sixties. The animation here is good and the movie is original, but it simply does not work.

The Wild Chase is an odd cartoon that mixes together all of these iconic characters into one messy and strange concoction.

My Rating – 3
