The Wacky Worm ReviewThe Wacky Worm Review

The Wacky Worm is a 1941 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty good short.

A bird constantly attempts to catch a worm who continues to escape into apples. Finally, the bird decides to eat all apples and then one apple stays uneaten and the worm is in it. Unfortunately for the bird, a woodpecker pecks the tree and a lot of additional apples fall down and thus ruining any chance for the bird to catch the worm. Yes, that ending is such a fun, clever finale and I loved the final line.

The ending is easily the highlight of this cartoon which otherwise is somewhat flawed and uneven. Yes, it’s very well animated and I loved both the worm and the bird character, but the pacing is slow and the film is especially padding in the first half. It needed energy and more gags in its execution.

The Wacky Worm is definitely great in its ending and characters, but weaker in pacing and lacking in energy.

My Rating – 3.8
