The Hypo-Chondri-Cat ReviewThe Hypo-Chondri-Cat Review

The Hypo-Chondri-Cat is a 1950 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid short.

Hubie and Bertie are back to torment the poor cat Claude. This time around, they play on his hypochondria and make him believe that he is sick. Eventually, they fly him off into the sky with a balloon, promising him heaven. That part I did not like. It was pointless, not all that funny and not nearly as brutal as the short and this duo promised.

But overall, the short is a lot of fun. I liked the surgery part, the hallucinations and the whole hypochondria angle was perfect for this film, and particularly this cat character. Claude is as funny and as sweet as he always is, and the mice are extremely manipulative per usual. I loved the dialogue here, and the animation is also very nice.

The Hypo-Chondri-Cat should have had a better finale, but the film is otherwise well scripted with good dialogue and humor.

My Rating – 3.9
