The Cat's Tale ReviewThe Cat’s Tale Review

The Cat’s Tale is a 1941 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very good short.

A mouse is tired of being chased by a cat endlessly so he proposes that they stop the chasing altogether so the cat goes to propose that to his dog chaser. Naturally it all goes downhill and the mouse still ends up running away from the cat. I found that this cartoon never quite utilized its premise to the fullest extent as it could have been much funnier than what we got.

But still, this one is for the keeps and one of the better of the 40s shorts so far. The voice acting is stellar across the board and the dialogue is excellent. The film is actually quite dialogue-heavy, but that I love so I didn’t mind it at all. The action is solid and both the mouse and the cat character are a lot of fun. The ending is typical, but still very good and the overall short is hugely entertaining and very well paced.

The Cat’s Tale has a pretty original premise well executed thanks to strong dialogue and voice performances.

My Rating – 4
