Roo is upset when Rabbit cancels Easter and declares “Spring Cleaning Day” instead. For a movie with Roo in its title, there is surprisingly little of him here, but that was a choice done for the better as Rabbit is a much more interesting personality. This is basically Rabbit’s movie that gave him a moment to shine and I really appreciated that as he has always been one of the staples of this source material.

He is great here and the positioning of him as basically a protagonist in a sort of Charles Dickens storyline was a great choice. All of the scenes surrounding him are so well done. However, all the others suffered as a result of the film’s strong focus on him. Tigger has his moments for sure and the scenes between the two are great, but Pooh is ridiculously sidelined here and Piglet and Eeyore have rarely been this badly utilized.

Springtime with Roo is also too simplistic in its storyline, even for Winnie the Pooh standards. The plot is fine for kids, but we should have gotten more secondary plots for other characters. The animation itself is solid, but nothing truly amazing. The movie looks polished and serviceable, but far from great or particularly memorable.

I also did not care about this movie’s soundtrack, which is very mediocre and forgettable with maybe the only exception being Easter Day with You, which is reasonably sweet and diverting. Overall, the dialogue is okay and the pacing is fine, but the movie never really gained that much of a momentum due to its overly thin plot and short runtime.

Springtime with Roo is a solid Winnie the Pooh flick that is certainly way too simplistic in its storyline and underutilized in many of its characters, but Rabbit himself is excellent as this is basically his movie and the overall storyline, though simple, has its charms and its heart.

My Rating – 3.5
