Southern Fried Rabbit ReviewSouthern Fried Rabbit Review

Southern Fried Rabbit is a 1953 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is such a funny short.

Bugs heads toward the record carrot crop in Alabama, but runs into Colonel (Yosemite) Sam who is under orders to let no Yankee cross the Mason-Dixon line. Finally, Yosemite Sam is back after some kind of a hiatus. He is amazing here as he has rarely been this crazy and this dumb. He is at least ninety years stuck in the past and it was a perfect role for this Southern redneck.

Bugs is also pretty good, though not as great as Sam. I did like many of the gags here, especially his disguises were fantastic throughout. The action is great and the animation is fantastic. The dialogue is so strong with some very clever lines interspersed during the film’s runtime. But Bugs should have been more brutal and the ending is abrupt and simply not satisfactory in any shape or form.

Southern Fried Rabbit is weaker in its ending, but terrific in its premise. Yosemite Sam steals the show in such a terrific role.
