She Wronged Him Right Review

She Wronged Him Right Review

She Wronged Him Right is a 1934 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a very well crafted short.

Betty Boop appears on stage with Freddie in an old-fashioned mortgageĀ melodrama. Freddy must rescue her from a dastardly villain. Though obviously confined to a stage and to a typical Betty has to be rescued narrative, She Wronged Him Right is actually one of the stronger Betty Boop cartoons due to its craftsmanship alone.

As the objects and people change shape and the villain feels very snakelike, the movie was gorgeously realized in its meticulous animation that perfectly recreates the theatrics of a stage play. The water can in the third act was particularly memorable and interesting. There is a wonderfully old-fashioned feel to this stage-like animation that has strong action, but the characters were underdeveloped and just acting as tropes. The villain was at least quite striking in his looks.

She Wronged Him Right is thinly plotted, but it has gorgeous animation and a great utilization of its stage setting.

My Rating – 4
