Shamrock and Roll Review

Shamrock and Roll Review

Shamrock and Roll is a 1969 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a weak short.

Merlin the Magic Mouse and his sidekick Second Banana encounter a rascally leprechaun named O’Reilly in Ireland. This is yet another forgettable cartoon starring these two odd characters, who simply never quite worked. Their dynamic is fun for sure, but individually they leave a lot to be desired in terms of memorable personalities and humor.

The movie takes its sweet time before arriving to the Irish jokes that it obviously always set out to do, thus the first half was quite mediocre and prolonged. The second half itself wasn’t really funny, but at least it was somewhat diverting and charming. The animation and score are just okay while the voice acting is the best aspect here.

Shamrock and Roll has a weak plot and mediocre humor, but the voice acting and the third act are at least solid.

My Rating – 3.1
