Pokémon Season 19 Review

The 19th season of Pokémon is XY: Kalos Quest. It is a mostly filler-filled season which is overlong, but with its entertaining touches here and there.

This is one of those typical filler and adventure seasons which is usually the case with middle seasons in the arcs. So basically there are no tournaments here and almost no proper fights to be found whatsoever. There are a couple of battles here and there, but most are unimportant and shorter in length.

This season is not as important as the previous season nor the next one I should think. It’s just a middle season arc with a bunch of adventure storylines, humorous episodes as well as character interactions and we do get some good ones and good growth too.

So Serena continue to be infatuated with Ash which is really an interesting turn for this kid friendly show. They unfortunately never went too far with this relationship, but Serena’s infatuation with Ash truly is cute to witness at times, though he seems clueless for the most part. Many may hate this development, but I personally like it more than I dislike it.

Bonnie continues to be forgettable, but Clemont is actually pretty solid as the companion character for Ash. He was pretty good last time and here he is also at times amusing with his failed experiments and bad naming of them. With him, the show introduced a different kind of character – a more nerdy and scientific one. And that I liked as it differentiates from Brock-typing very well.

And of course this season is Team Rocket’s season. Although for the most part their plans and actions are uninspired, some of the episodes they got are a lot of fun. And although the Pokémon are lacking in this season, these villains compensated with a lot of memorable scenes with them and thankfully they brought back their first and by far the best motto. That episode where Jessie falls in love and is eventually reunited with her team is moving and honestly one of the best episodes of the entire show.

So in the end, this season is uninspired, filled with fillers and mostly unimportant, but definitely amusing in a couple of episodes and Clemont and Team Rocket steal the show this time around.

Worst Episodes: When Light and Dark Collide, A Race for Home, A Trip Down Memory Train and Tag Team Battle Inspiration.

Best Episodes: A Fork in the Road. A Parting of the Ways, A Frenzied Factory Fiasco and All Eyes on the Future.

My Rating – 3.3
