Pests for Guests Review

Pests for Guests is a 1955 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a weaker short.

Elmer Fudd buys a wooden set of drawers not knowing that two polite twin gophers have claimed the piece of furniture as their home. When Elmer places the drawers in his bedroom, the gophers decide to start storing their nuts and begin drawing an excess of tree acorns into Elmer’s house. Fudd loses his cool and tries to eliminate the gophers by any means.

That plot is not great. The gophers themselves have gotten stale by now and I personally have had enough of them in this series. Elmer is usually a terrific classic character, but he is not a good mix with these creatures. Still, there are some nice scenarios well played out here and Elmer is mostly quite amusing, but overall the short needed better action and much better humor.

Pests for Guests is another weaker short from this year that did not start off well for the series. It has its moments, but overall it is nothing special.

My Rating – 3.4
