Lumber Jack-Rabbit ReviewLumber Jack-Rabbit Review

Lumber Jack-Rabbit is a 1953 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is an imaginative short.

Bugs Bunny arrives at a place where giants live. There he finds a giant carrot garden, but a huge dog guards them. This is an odd short that could have been great had they landed the third act, but alas, they did not. The dog becoming docile was a rather anticlimactic and typical way to end the movie and I did not care for it.

But I loved everything else here. The dog is so cute and endearing, and Bugs is suitably clever throughout. Some of their first interactions are terrific. But the standout has to be the world building. This is an instantly memorable giant world with the giant carrots representing classically crazy Looney Tunes imagery. The animation is polished and gorgeous, and the film is very originally plotted.

Lumber Jack-Rabbit has a problematic third act, but the rest is a wonderfully original tale of giants with terrific animation and world building.

My Rating – 4
