Jumpin’ Jupiter Review

Jumpin’ Jupiter is a 1955 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is an interesting short.

Porky and Sylvester camp in the desert and encounter a space alien. I was disappointed that Marvin the Martian never showed up here, but the alien that we got is still suitably weird and otherworldly. I liked him a lot as he was such a memorable presence. The movie is also gorgeously animated, very atmospheric and a delight throughout.

What was surprising here was seeing Porky and Sylvester in such an otherworldly scenario. It was unique and unexpected enough that it really worked, though Porky is clearly the highlight here and not Sylvester. I wanted more from him. The flick overall is very charming and wonderful, but it needed better humor overall. The meticulous details and the world building are awesome here.

Jumpin’ Jupiter could have been funnier and even better, but it’s still a different enough short that benefits from a memorable alien and terrific atmosphere.

My Rating – 4
