Horse Hare Review

Horse Hare Review

Horse Hare is a 1960 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very dated short.

In 1886 Old West Sergeant Bugs Bunny of the United States Cavalry is the sole guard of Fort Lariat, as everyone else has left for a mission. Renegade Sam leads an army of Indians in a siege of the fort. My main issue with this movie is its unfunny, dated portrayal of Native Americans. It’s not just stereotyping, but it’s also never all that funny.

The rest of the cartoon doesn’t fare much better either. Sam and Bugs are as fun as they always are and some of their gags are excellent. However, the animation is weak, the setting is poorly realized and the overall storyline is quite slim. It’s one of those shorts that would have been fine back in the thirties, but for 1960 it doesn’t suffice.

Horse Hare is a stereotypical, dull short that does have solid Sam and Bugs, but the plot and most of the gags are inferior.

My Rating – 3.2
