Hop Skip and a Chump ReviewHop Skip and a Chump Review

Hop Skip and a Chump is a 1942 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid flick.

This short follows two birds who chase a mischievous, arrogant grasshopper and only in the ending they manage to finally catch him. I liked that fade out ending as it was original to have the black screen for so long, twenty seconds, and it’s the highlight of the film.

But other than that scene, the film is rarely as memorable. It needed better action, humor and pace. I did like the characters though. The two birds are a very memorable comedic duo and of course the hopper is quite an amusing creation who can be annoying, but that’s the point. The animation’s pretty good as well, but the score is forgettable.

Hop Skip and a Chump is well animated and with memorable characters, but it needed more memorable scenes apart from its ending.

My Rating – 3.5
