Highway Runnery Review

Highway Runnery Review

Highway Runnery is a 1965 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a forgettable Road Runner short.

Wile E. Coyote chases the Road Runner around an old jalopy that starts up and runs him over, with the Road Runner at the wheel. Wile E. plants a bomb in a fake egg shell for the Road Runner to sit on, but instead of exploding under the Road Runner, it hatches a robot that walks over to Wile E. and explodes. That robot sequence is the only moment in the movie that really worked. It was fresh and especially funny in its second explosion that I did not see coming.

As for the rest of the cartoon, it’s only serviceable. The animation, sound and score are only okay while most of the gags were not all that interesting. The rocket gag needed more work while the first half was quite forgettable in its entirety. The ending was also not great, which is rare for a Road Runner short.

Highway Runnery has one great sequence, but that’s pretty much it. It’s a serviceable short that is entertaining, but hardly ever fresh and/or exciting.

My Rating – 3.4
