Chaser on the Rocks Review

Chaser on the Rocks Review

Chaser on the Rocks is a 1965 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is an uneven, but interesting flick.

In this short, Wile E. Coyote is both thirsty and hungry. He keeps seeing mirages of oases in the desert as he chases the Road Runner. The premise here is a terrific one. Rarely do we see the depiction of natural elements in these movies, but Rudy Larriva dealt with them somewhat effectively. The coyote being thirsty did lead to some very amusing moments.

The best gag is obviously the one where Wile paints a detonator into a fake soda. Then, the Road Runner somehow takes a sip without it exploding and with no soda anywhere to be found. And then of course it explodes into Wile’s face. It was hilarious because it made no sense. But the rest of the gags were only serviceable with the second half this time around being quite inferior to the first one.

Chaser on the Rocks has one standout gag, but the rest are only serviceable. The premise is great, but the execution should have been stronger.

My Rating – 3.6
