Hide and Seek Review

Hide and Seek is a 1932 animated short film from the Talkartoons series.

This movie was obviously made much earlier, but was shelved and only released in 1932 at the tail-end of this series. Thus, the results are disorienting. The film is so primitive and old-fashioned in comparison to the newer entries that it felt like a mismatch and a mistake to release it at all.

Bimbo got his earlier design and Betty is nowhere to be seen. The flick is not bad as it would have been quite fine a year earlier. The animation and score would be solid back then. But when it was released it was quite subpar to its contemporaries, so it ended up being a waste.

Hide and Seek is the weakest Talkartoons short that is fine for what it is, but it’s certainly inferior to its contemporaries.
