Gopher Broke Review

Gopher Broke Review

Gopher Broke is a 1958 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is an inferior cartoon.

The problem with the Gophers is that most of their entries weren’t great, not by a long shot. Some of the earlier ones were at least solid, but the later movies became weaker and weaker to the point where I wonder why they continued making them in the first place. This one is well animated and the creatures are fun. The Freud references are also okay.

But that final gag was simply not worth the entire wait. It was so clichéd and seen so many times before in other Looney Tunes shorts that it felt very forgettable. The dog is also not well used, and the movie’s halves felt very distinctly different from each other. It’s very weakly paced and structured for sure.

Gopher Broke has fine visuals and some scenes are solid, but most of this cartoon is derivative and very forgettable as a result.

My Rating – 3.2
