Corn on the Cop Review

Corn on the Cop Review

Corn on the Cop is a 1965 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty weak short.

On Halloween night policemen Daffy Duck and Porky Pig search for a robber disguised as Granny but end up tangling with the real Granny instead. This was apparently the last Porky Pig short and sadly he did not go out on a great note. He wasn’t particularly funny here, though his pairing with Daffy was an endearing one. They are the policemen here, which was odd, but at least they functioned solidly together.

My main issue with this movie is its lackluster execution that is especially weak in comedic delivery. Granny got a great role and she was funny at first, but eventually the short settled into mediocre territory, failing to properly utilize its admittedly solid premise. The criminal villain also failed to make an impact. The animation is rather solid and the buddy cop vibe to the short was cool, but still the gags did not make me laugh once.

Corn on the Cop had a solid premise and a good buddy cop vibe, but the execution was quite mediocre, resulting in an unfunny short.

My Rating – 3.2
