Claws for Alarm ReviewClaws for Alarm Review

Claws for Alarm is a 1954 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty good short.

It is the second of three cartoons teaming Porky and Sylvester, continuing his non-speaking role as Porky’s cat in a spooky setting where only Sylvester is aware of the danger the pair are in. The creepy horror atmosphere is pretty fun here, especially the animation is wonderful and the score is great.

I did find the movie not all that funny unfortunately. It is also not that memorable and/or original. But, Sylvester and Porky are so good together that it’s a shame that they only received a couple of films together. They’re a great fit with a couple of scenes here being a delight.

Claws for Alarm has its problems, but the horror atmosphere is great and the characters are a great fit together.
