Cheese Chasers ReviewCheese Chasers Review

Cheese Chasers is a 1951 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a weaker flick.

After invading a cheese factory, mice Hubie and Bertie have finally had their fill of cheese and figure there’s nothing more left to live for. They plan to end it all by surrendering to Claude Cat, who becomes decidedly suspicious. This is an odd premise that works to a degree. I personally did not find this short to be a good send-off for the two mice as this is their last cartoon.

They are okay here, but not great. The same goes for Claude Cat who is usually much better and more memorable than he is here. The dog steals the show thus rather easily. His befuddled confusion with all of these proceedings really made me chuckle, and he’s the bright spot in an otherwise subpar short.

Cheese Chasers has a great use of the dog, but the cat and the mice should have been better utilized.

My Rating – 3.5
