Cat’s A-Weigh! is a 1953 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very familiar flick.

This is another short starring Sylvester, his son and Hippety Hopper. Once again, he has to to beat “the big mouse” who is a kangaroo in order to impress his son. Unlike most other similar shorts, Hopper is mostly left to imagination here, which was interesting. The short is also a lot of fun throughout.

Sylvester and his son are terrific together as their dynamic is highly entertaining. The animation here is also strong as are some of the humorous situations. The movie is solid, but hardly ever unique as it recycles previous such Hippety Hopper shorts with not much new material.

Cat’s a Weigh! is a very entertaining, well executed short that still needed more originality to it.
