Bugs’ Bonnets Review

Bugs’ Bonnets Review

Bugs’ Bonnets is a 1956 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a surprisingly inferior short.

The premise of this movie is so bizarre, even for a Warner Bros. cartoon. It is about how clothes can change a person’s personality, so that he becomes that person whose costume he is wearing. It’s ridiculous and it simply did not work. Some of the lines of dialogue are fun and per usual Bugs’ delivery is great, but even he struggled with this weaker material.

Elmer also has some good moments and the wedding finale is fun. The two have a great dynamic per usual, but the execution is not that polished having in mind that the pacing is off and that the movie just sort of ends. It felt rushed and not particularly funny.  The premise itself remains the biggest offence as I simply could not take it seriously.

Bugs’ Bonnets has some good character moments and dialogue, but it’s such a ridiculous premise that the movie did not work for me.

My Rating – 3.4
