Book Revue ReviewBook Revue Review

Book Revue is a 1946 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is an overly dated short.

The book covers come alive in this short which is way too archaic for 1946 and is more reminiscent in particular of the year 1934 when these types of shorts were produced in abundance. I loved the animation here which was very inspired in all the movements and colors and the score is also very strong.

But the movie is otherwise filled with too many pop-culture references of the 40s and is thus difficult to understand today and I failed to get most of these jokes which was a problem as the movie thus wasn’t funny to me. Also, Daffy Duck is problematic as he’s not particularly crazy here nor does he have his usual lisp.

Book Revue has great animation, but it’s otherwise overly timely and not timeless at all. It’s thus rather overrated and disappointing.

My Rating – 3.3
