Betty Boop’s Penthouse Review

Betty Boop’s Crazy Penthouse is a 1933 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a pretty good short.

Bimbo and Koko experiment in their laboratory while Betty Boop is watering her flowers in her penthouse. Eventually, they create a monster that goes on to attack Betty. My problem with this short is that it’s very thin and absurd in its storytelling. The ending made no sense and it came out of nowhere while also ending abruptly.

The remainder of the flick fared better as the experiments the two conducted were memorable and fun while Betty’s song that she sings was also quite amusing. The highlights of the short are of course the surreal, beautiful animation and its swingy jazz music that is particularly well incorporated into the action on screen. I just wish that the plot was more substantial.

Betty Boop’s Penthouse is very well animated and superbly scored, but its thin and illogical plot left a lot to be desired.

My Rating – 3.5
