Betty Boop’s Crazy Inventions Review

Betty Boop’s Crazy Inventions is a 1933 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a pretty good short.

In a circus tent, Betty, Bimbo and Koko demonstrate some gadgets reminiscent of TV ads. Eventually, an animated sewing machine gets out of hand. This is one of those 30s cartoons that focus on technology, especially that of the cartoony and illogical variety. The premise is terrific, but the first half needed to have had more memorable contraptions. Most are just fine without ever being particularly complex and/or amusing.

The highlight came toward the end when that sewing machine brought chaos everywhere. This produced some very entertaining moments and a lot of memorable surreal imagery. The short is as gorgeously animated as ever with particularly great attention to detail in these machines. Betty is lovely here and Koko got one of his better roles so far in the series. How the spectators behaved was also quite memorable.

Betty Boop’s Crazy Inventions needed more memorable contraptions overall, but it’s still a very well made, gorgeously animated Betty Boop cartoon with a stellar ending.

My Rating – 3.9
