Belle’s Magical World Movie Review

Belle’s Magical World is a 1998 direct-to-video animated film from Disneytoon Studios. It’s such a pointless mess of a movie.

Disney was apparently developing a ‘Beauty and the Beast’ television series, but it didn’t get finished, so here we have a movie that basically consists of four or five segments that were clearly once television episodes. All of these segments are not connected whatsoever, and the movie is so bad that even its predecessor ‘The Enchanted Christmas’ is better than this crap.

Again, we got a freaking midquel. I don’t know what was Disney’s reasoning with this particular story getting the midquel treatment when it’s the worst story to receive that kind of treatment. But my main issue is not the format, but what stems from the format, in particular the many plot holes and decisions that literally ruin the original by wholly changing some of its most important plot points.

Each and every story has at least an example of this untrue for story and characters behavior. The first one sees Belle again obsess over Beast way too much when in reality she was more proactive and independent in the original. In the second segment, Fifi is thought of as a romantic interest for Lumiere whereas before that she was just a literal and metaphorical flame. Beast not liking birds and so on and so forth. I hated how they changed the characters and plot points from the original.

The stories all of course have a message at the end. They are about the importance of forgiving, compromises, compassion and respect. But the messages are stated in the most horrendous style possible by hitting the kids on their heads – Hey kids, compassion is important! Hey children, you need to learn how to forgive! That type of childishness was downright offensive.

And let’s not talk about the technical aspects in Belle’s Magical World. The pacing and structure are horrendous, the animation is very cheap and the dialogue is so bad. The only good thing about it is some of the voice acting which is pretty good and some characters are fine. But that’s pretty much it.

Belle’s Magical World has terrible animation, horrible structure and frustratingly betrayed characters and plot points from the original. It’s one of the cheapest, worst films that Disney has ever produced. It’s so bad that even its predecessor is a much better alternative than this mess.
