Attack of the Drones Review

Attack of the Drones Review

Attack of the Drones is a 2004 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series.

With a hostile group of ravenous alien monsters threatening the Earth, Duck Dodgers creates robotic copies to stop them. The robots rebel, though, and Dodgers has to figure out a way to stop them. This movie functioned as a parody of the prequel Star Wars trilogy, in particular focusing on lampooning ‘Attack of the Clones’ in its title and action. The movie is also chockfull of references to other animated SF characters with the highlight being Zoidberg from ‘Futurama’.

My problem with this flick is that it doesn’t really stand on its own as it failed to create its own identity. It is a parody that is amusing and gorgeously animated with excellent character designs, but it failed to make me laugh as Daffy himself was not as memorable in this short as he was in Dodgers’ previous adventures. The movie is fast-paced and fun, but the storytelling left a lot to be desired.

Attack of the Drones is well animated and it works as a solid SF parody, but its overall plot and humor were lacking.

My Rating – 3.8
