Ants in the Plants Review

Ants in the Plants is a 1940 animated short film created by Fleischer Studios. It is a solid flick.

This short follows a bunch of ants as they fight an anteater invading them. This is one of the rare US shorts of 1940 to directly deal with war tactics and this is one of the most interesting things about the film. As they fight this anteater, it was quite fun seeing all the ways that they would try to beat him. The action is pretty good for sure.

The first half is also a solid introduction and a great look into the ants’ lifestyle and the setting is so well realized. My main issue here is that none of this is particularly inspired. The movie is just solid without ever being particularly memorable as it channels Silly Symphonies in style and plot way too much. The voice acting and sound are also of questionable quality.

Ants in the Plants has solid animation and action, but it’s nothing special in its plot and the overall tone.

My Rating – 3.7
