Another Froggy Evening Review

Another Froggy Evening Review

Another Froggy Evening is a 1995 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series.

Michigan J. Frog pops in and out of people’s lives through history in this sequel to the seminal 1955 cartoon that remains one of the greatest Looney Tunes of all time. You’d think that a sequel arriving forty years after the original would be poor, but it ended up being very strong. In fact, it’s one of the best modern Looney Tunes without a doubt. It’s not as great as the original as it was a bit too long and not as artistic, but it’s wholly entertaining and hilarious.

The highlight was seeing Michigan throughout the centuries. Witnessing this frog singing early 20th century show-tunes during the 18th century and even prehistory produced a whiplash of hilarity and absurdity that only the best shorts in the series manage to achieve. Michigan is very funny and he is even anthropomorphized a bit here to great effect while every man throughout the centuries being reminiscent to the original film’s protagonist was also a great choice. The animation isn’t as amazing as before, but it’s still very polished and charming.

Another Froggy Evening is a modern Looney Tunes short that functions as a timeless classic with catchy songs, a great concept and a wonderfully utilized Michigan J. Frog.
