A Little Soap and Water Review

A Little Soap and Water is a 1935 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a very slight flick.

Betty Boop tries to give Pudgy the Pup a bath, with the puppy refuses. This is one of those Pudgy-oriented Betty Boop shorts that made me wonder whose series this is – Betty’s or Pudgy’s? I miss having Betty be the protagonist and do something more meaningful in her life. These cartoons are endearing and fun, but hardly memorable or exciting.

With that being said, this is still a cute short. Pudgy is as adorable as always and how he would continuously try to escape from his bath is very true for dogs as they do really hate water. The animation is solid, but the score is uninteresting here, though Betty gets to sing a bit in the beginning. There is this one moment where Betty falls down and she states that she fell down. That was hilarious, but unfortunately the rest of the short was not funny at all.

A Little Soap and Water has its fine moments and it’s very cute, but it is slightly plotted and lacking in memorably story or gags.

My Rating – 3.4
